Checking the moral compass

What would you do in the following situations?

You found your partner's diary in which she writes everything. Do you take a look at it?
You scraped a car in a parking lot. No-one has seen it. Do you leave your details on the windscreen for the driver? (The car is a BMW by the way)
You found a brilliant mobile phone on the street. Would you try and find the owner in order to give it back?
You discover that a co-worker (whom you dislike) is having an affair. Do you spread it around the office?

The honest answers you give are determined by your moral compass. We each have a sense of what is right and wrong. The following is a good way of fine tuning your moral compass to make sure it is in line with your inner most values.

Would I feel ashamed telling anyone of what I am about to do?
Is the negative or destructive consequences associated with what I am about to do?
Is it illegal?
Will I hurt anyone else from the actions I am about to take?
By doing this am I breaking a commitment I have made to someone else?
Will I feel guilty in any way after doing this?

If the answer to any of these questions is yes, then the chances are you are violating one of your innermost values. I think the best way to ensure that you are keeping your moral fibres in check is by following the following piece of advice."Treat others as you would like to be treated." If everyone treated each other as they themselves would like to be treated, then the world would be a better place. Don't violate your core values, obey your moral compass and you will feel greater peace and harmony.
