You're enjoying a great morning at work. That is until your manager calls you in and says she has a great announcement to make! There are some new job "duties" that'll become effective in two weeks and you've been selected to train your unit on the new material. We smile but inside you say, "But I am no trainer!" My answer to that is-if we are not now, we sure could be. I know because I used to be where we are right now. And, as of 2006 I have delivered hundreds of workshops, seminars, meetings and written a boatload of training. nd I have had and am still having a ball. Here are a few things we have to understand before we permanenetly adopt a "Why me" attitude: You probably perform your current duties well and are recognized as a person others can consult for help. You (seem to) like what we do and company we work for. Somewhere along way you've demonstrated an ability/potential to speak well. You are probably a quick study aand a leader. What a terrific start! Here's what to do next: Speak to your manager to determine how much time we have to work on this project and negotiate how much of your "regular" work can be adjusted to incorporate this new item. Ask your manager for help with your presentation Get all of the training materials and review / use them yourself. Make sure everything works. Become very familiar with everything! Find out who your audience is to ensure what we say is geared toward who is listening. Practice your presentation in a mirror and in front of other trustworthy folks. After we present, get feedback from your audience. Give them a short survey to fillout to assess how well we did. Use results to update your presentation for next time. Relax and have fun. These tips will get we started. And it really DOES get easier every time. Good Luck!
